Become a Referee
All United States Soccer Federation (USSF) affiliates, including California Youth Soccer Association North (Youth), require that all referees be certified by the USSF. To do this, you must have a USSF Grade 8 or Grade 9 Recreational Referee. (Pleasanton is located in District 3).

This year grade 9 classes are only available for Adults and not for Youth Referees. Any youth must take the grade 8 class if they want to become a Referee in Pleasanton.
Last year all our classes were full and we had many students who could not take a Referee class. Class size is limited by the District and so you should not wait until the last minute to register. Just ask the folks who could not get into a class last year!
Our Referee classes are typically held at one of the following locations: 1) Pleasanton Middle School 2) Aquatic Park Community Center Room on Black Ave next to the Swim center.

Here is the list of Grade 9 Adult Referee Class classes 2008 (Register for one of the following sessions which comprise 9 hours of class instruction, field work and test):
Session 1: Aug 26/27 (Tues/Wed 6-10:30PM)
Session 2: Sep 2/3 (Tues/Wed 6-10:30PM)

Referee Requirements:
- You must be at least twelve (12) years old
- You must take a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) beginning referee class and then pass an examination
- PSRA offers both Grade 8 and Grade 9 beginning classes
- Grade 8 classes are comprised of six three hour sessions (18 hours total) and qualify successful candidates to officiate any level of USSF sanctioned match.
- Grade 9 classes are comprised of three three hour sessions (9 hours total) and qualify successful candidates to officiate under 14 age groups recreational league matches only. (Grade 9 Classes are only offered to Adults)
- For Pleasanton residents, the Grade 9 classes cost $30 ($35 non-residents). The Grade 8 classes cost $30 ($35 for non-residents). The Bridge 9-8 classes costs $30 ($35 for non-residents). Your annual USSF registration fee of $25 is included in the class fee, and will be refunded to you by PYSL if you referee at least 10 league matches in Pleasanton. This refund is in addition to the money you will be paid for refereeing the 10 matches.
- You must be physically able to run for an entire soccer match, have good vision, and be able to understand and apply the Laws of the game
